Title: "Road to Lakehouse: A Brief History of Analytics" Abstract: Lakehouse is the newest paradigm emerging for modern data analytics architecture. It combines the flexibility, cost-efficiency, and scale of data lakes with the data management and ACID guarantees of data warehouses; enabling both business intelligence and machine learning workloads against a single source of truth. In this talk, we will go back through the last 20 years and discuss how the different innovations in technology have impacted the way we think about data architecture leading up to the Lakehouse pattern. Speaker profile: Guanjie Shen is a Solutions Architect based in Calgary with multiple years of experience building enterprise data platforms. Currently, he is focused on helping Databricks customers in Western Canada scale out and modernize their data and AI capabilities.In his previous role at e-commerce start up he was responsible for designing real time business intelligence products using Spark Structured Streaming, Delta Lake and Apache Kafka. For several years Dr. Shahbakhti has worked to analyze how the dynamic automotive, robotic, and heating ventilation and air conditioning (HVAC) systems control our vehicles. His research has focused on increasing the efficiency of energy systems, working with the automotive industry on systems identification, physical modeling, combustion and hybrid electric engines, vehicle emissions systems, and both connected and automated vehicles. A career of research trials saw Mahdi well positioned to lead the instrumentation, data collection, and vehicle telematics portions of the Cooperative Truck Platooning System Project."
